Analiza M. Silva (AMS) is an Assistant Professor with Habilitation at the Faculty of Human Kinetics-University of Lisbon (FMH-UL) where she leads the research group “Functional Body Composition and Energy Regulation” in the Exercise and Health Laboratory. Since 2012, AMS has an appointment as adjunct faculty member at Pennington Biomedical Research Centre, USA. She holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Exercise Science at FMH-UL. Her PhD was accomplished in 2005 at FMH-UL and included 6-month training at the New York Obesity Research Centre of Columbia University where she later performed her post-doc studies (2006-2008). AMS has participated as co-investigator (CI) in 3 international grants, 1 from the European Hydration Institute and 2 from Brazilian Founding Agencies (CAPES and CNPq); 7 national funded grants, 2 as principal investigator (PI) and 2 as CI (Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology) and 3 as PI (Portuguese Institute for Sports and Youth and Portuguese Hydration Institute). She published more than 90 international peer-reviewed and is editorial member of 3 journals. AMS supervised several master, PhD and post-doc students. She received 4 awards for her scientific achievements. Her research interests cover body composition, energy balance components including reference techniques such as doubly labeled water and other physical activity (PA) sensors for energy expenditure assessment, and PA and sedentary behavior as health-related predictors. Her present research interests include the study of compensatory mechanisms (physiological and behavioral) that result from energy balance interventions (exercise, diet) and the dynamic changes in body composition during weight loss.
