Helena Santa-Clara is Assistant Professor of Physical Fitness in Young and Cardiac Rehabilitation at the Universidade de Lisboa (UL), Faculdade de Motricidade Humana (FMH). She is coordinator of the Exercise and cardiovascular regulation research group from the Exercise and Health Laboratory of the Faculdade de Motricidade Humana, Universidade de Lisboa. Research of this group is focused in 3 major areas: design, implementation and assessment of exercise interventions for cardiovascular prevention and treatment (chronic disease patients and pediatric population); exercise, acute and chronic adaptations of autonomic nervous system (chronic disease patients and pediatric population); and associations between multiple cardiovascular risk factors and imaging preclinical markers of atherosclerosis in the chronic and acute exercise model (chronic disease patients and pediatric population). Has been an investigator in several FCT-funded project and she was PI for the project with the title “Exercise training following cardiac resynchronization therapy in patients with chronic heart failure”. She is director of physical exercise program of cardiac rehabilitation at FMH as well at the Center for Cardiovascular Rehabilitation, UL. She is Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and collaborates with the College of pathophysiology of effort and cardiac rehabilitation of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology.
