Rita Cordovil de Matos

Rita Cordovil is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Human Kinetics, University of Lisbon (FMH-ULisboa), and coordinates the Skill Learning Group at CIPER. She is also a member of the Motor Behavior Laboratory and teaches Development, Motor Control and Learning.

She holds a PhD in Human Kinetics (2010), a Master’s degree in Sport Psychology (2005), and a degree in Sport Science (1996), all from FMH-ULisboa. Her research focuses on perception–action, motor development and learning, motor competence, risk affordances, and independent mobility in children, with particular interest in how outdoor play and movement contribute to child development.

Before entering academia, she worked as a physical education teacher in primary and secondary schools in the Lisbon area. She also collaborates with local authorities on educational strategies related to children’s play, mobility, and development.

Research interests: Motor Development, Motor Competence, Motor Learning, Perception and Action, Child Safety, Risky Play, Play Environments, Independent Mobility, Cycling.
